Watering the lawn

Spring Reminder about Homeowner Irrigation Systems

Now that spring is here and residents are turning on their irrigation systems for watering the lawns, it is important to consider the issues that overwatering creates and how best to prevent these problems.

When the lawns are overwatered, the lawns get saturated especially between the homes.  The lawn mowers are then more prone to creating muddy ruts in the lawn because these areas do not dry out.  This is especially true in the side yards where the swales were created to carry water away from the foundations of the homes.

Meticulous Landscaping has recommended that homeowners work out a watering schedule with the neighbors on either side of them so that both are not watering the same areas.  In fact, some of the homeowners have achieved success by not watering the side yards at all in order to prevent this problem from occurring.  This should be monitored carefully.

In addition, lawns that are over watered are more attractive to fungus that is hard to control as the weather gets warmer.  The Association does not treat for fungus control.

For this reason, it is important to be careful not to overwater the lawn.
